Scarlets v Ulster - Fri 18/02/11

Well it's Friday night 18/02/2011 and I've just watched the first half of the Scarlets game against Ulster. Conditions are not great but there's some nice rugby being played. The referee is not having his best game I think, but the players are getting on with it. Scottish winger Sean Lamont is having a solid game, as is Gareth Maul on the other wing and Rhys Priestland at fly half. The Scarlets are leading by 16-9 at half time thanks to a penalty try well won by the forwards at a 5 metre scrummage. The second half is about to kick off so I'll sign off now and post again at the final whistle.

Six Nations Catch Up

Ok, so the second round of matches have been played, but let's start from the beginning and give a very brief outline of how the first round matches panned out:

The first game of the Championship saw England travel to Cardiff where they totally outplayed a very average looking Welsh team with Chris Ashton scoring two well taken tries. Wales fought hard but were never really in the game and didn't look like posing a serious threat to the eventual outcome.

Ireland travelled to Rome to face a steadily improving Italian team under the guidance of South African coach Nick Mallett. Ireland started the game in their usual fashion (one hundred miles an hour) and could have scored on a number of occasions early on. The usually rock solid Gordon Darcy was having a very rare 'off day' dropping several passes and missing some easy tackles to let the Italians off the hook. The Italians kept on plugging away and eventually took the lead with a well worked try late on in the game, but, yet again, Ronan O'Gara came to Irelands rescue with a dropped goal to steal the game from the Italians. How many times has he saved Ireland that way? (any statos out there please feel free to enlighten us)

Scottish supporters donned their berrets and followed their team to Paris as they prepared to take on the French national team. The French team with their juggernaut pack and silky backline started to take control of the game, but the Scots would not lay down scoring three tries as they fought to stay in the game. In the end the French were too powerful and had too much creativity behind the scrum as they left the Scottish team trailing in their wake.

I'll update with the round two outline shortly....

INTRODUCTION

Welcome to my blog about anything to do with rugby.

I will be putting pretty much anything on here to do with rugby in any form. I enjoy watching both codes in all formats (i.e. sevens etc.) and all levels including mini & junior rugby and womens rugby. I might pop a few pics in from any matches I've been to whether they're internationals or local grass roots games and would invite anyone to add their own contribution. Please think carefully about the content of any post you enter as this blog will be read by children. All entries will be monitored and any offensive ones will be removed.

I play the Blackout Rugby game online where you are the manager of a team and have to run the club. It includes all aspects of running a rugby club from buying and selling players to employing coaches and staff to maintain your stadium and I will probably be putting a few posts on about that. Hopefully, some other managers will contribute to this blog.

Thanks for looking and if you want to contribute please do so
